Scalable industrial network-based lighting control systems for commercial, industrial, or government building automation, security, and energy conservation.

Lighting Control

Lighting control systems are more important than ever. Not only does light control help conserve energy, but we're learning more and more about how indoor environments affect our behavior and enhance everything from productivity to learning. When you want to take advantage of lighting control advancements without a complete retrofit, ControlByWeb presents an ideal solution.

Drop-In Lighting Solution

Advanced lighting control systems are often integrated with a larger building automation system and are typically installed in new construction. For retrofits that cannot afford a total overhaul, our programmable I/O controllers are great drop-in solutions.

Our customers have used our I/O devices for things like remote switching, light scheduling, security lights, light timers, and much more.

Inputs that are compatible with digital signals from push-buttons to analog signals from photocells can be used to dim or switch lights on and off in a number of intelligent ways. Because our customer's needs vary so widely, so, too, do our solutions.

What You Can Do

Lighting Schedules

Controlling lights based on a schedule is useful for nearly any commercial building but can also be useful in residences and other buildings or structures, like parking garages.

Manual Light Control

The simple act of controlling a manual input such as a switch or a button from a control panel is used to control lights in everything from sports complexes to churches.

Commonly Used In:
  • Security
  • Parking Garages
  • Sports Complexes & Stadiums
  • Office Buildings
  • Churches
  • and more!

Common Lighting Automation Problems

Expensive Control Systems

Lighting control systems get expensive, and often integrate with building automation systems installed in new construction. Retrofitted projects are very pricey.

problem checkmark

Simple Solutions Lack Functionality

Most affordable I/O modules are overly simple and lack programmability, scheduling, and the flexibility needed to adjust to variable needs.

problem checkmark

Limited Technical Skills

Drop-in solutions can quickly become complicated when I/O modules or PLCs require coding skills to create a viable solution, which limits access to efficient controls.

Case Study: Parking Garage Lane Light Control

One of our customers specializes in solutions which improve revenue for property owners and 21st century convenience for drivers. Parking garages in the US are a $10 billion industry that will rely heavily on technological advancements to improve profitability over the coming years of slow projected growth. Our products paired with our customer's solution offers streamlined operations and attracts discerning customers.

Their proprietary cloud-based data acquisition and reporting system helps parking garage owners and operators know where they stand, and their control system automates nearly everything. As they developed their automation, they turned to ControlByWeb with a very specific need: lane control.

Each morning, the rush to work takes over parking garages across the US. More lanes are needed coming into a parking garage in the morning. In the afternoon and evening, more lanes are needed going out of a parking garage. To schedule the lights that label each lane's purpose, our customer found an ideal partner in ControlByWeb.

Our commitment to simple solutions and low pricing allows them to focus on other meaningful developments for their customers rather than developing their own hardware for this specific task.

It might seem simple, and it is, but it's also very important. By having flex lanes that accommodate schedule-based demand, parking garages can operate lean and provide their customers with a faster parking experience. In our busy, schedule-driven society, time is money and drivers know it. With the I/O experts at ControlByWeb, our customer can focus on what they do best: innovating for their customers and for busy drivers nationwide.

Lighting Control Kits

Simple Light Control

Provide a reliable drop-in solution designed to turn lights on/off at preset times, or based on sensor data, such as switches or motion detectors.

Integrates into existing automated lighting control systems or cloud systems using Modbus TCP/IP, XML, SNMP, or Remote Services.

Recommended Products:

  • X-401 Dual Relay and Input Module

Use as a master controller that communicates with other I/O modules throughout the network.

    • 2 SPDT Relays: 28VAC, 24VDC, 3A
    • 2 Digital Inputs: Optically-isolated, 4-26VDC
    • Task Builder: Built-in logic to schedule lights to turn on/off at preset times
    • Supports Custom Scripting: Use BASIC scripts for advanced control options
  • WebRelay Wireless (Optional Remote Control)

Use as a peripheral I/O module to control isolated lights which cannot be wired back to a central location. Can be used as a stand-alone device for remote control or used to communicate back to a master controller for scheduling capabilities.

    • 1 SPDT Relay: 240VAC, 30VDC, 12A
    • 1 Digital Input: Optically-isolated, 4-26VDC
    • Supports Custom Scripting: Use BASIC scripts for advanced control options

Advanced Light Control

Control larger banks of lights, using an expandable I/O controller with high-current relays. Schedule to turn lights on/off at preset times, or based on sensor data, such as switches or motion detectors.

Integrates into existing automated lighting control systems or cloud systems using Modbus TCP/IP, XML, SNMP, or Remote Services.

Recommended Products:

  • X-400 Expandable I/O controller | Supports up to 32 expansion modules
    • Mix & Match I/O: Easily create ideal control solution
    • No-Code Task Builder: Intuitive drop down menus
    • Supports Custom Scripting: Use BASIC scripts for advanced control
  • X-11s Expansion Module | 2 high-current relays

Directly connected to a X-400 controller, the X-11s uses its high-current relays to control light circuits.

  • X-15s Expansion Module | 8 digital inputs

Directly connected to a X-400 controller, the X-15s can be wired to light switches, which in turn, controls the relays connected to the light circuits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer

You can easily control anywhere from 1 light to 1,000 using one of our stand-alone, or expandable I/O controllers. You are able to create an entire lighting control system, or you can integrate it with an existing system to expand its existing functionality.

Answer

ControlByWeb devices can be accessed on a network using the IP address of the device. The network can be connected to the Internet, but it certainly doesn't have to be. We work with standard networking equipment to establish communications on an IP network, including the Internet.

Note: As with any device that can be accessed via the Internet, security should be taken into account. Text and email alerts require an Internet connection to function.

Answer

ControlByWeb devices have their own built-in web server which means they can be setup on a local IP network and accessed using a standard web browser, with no cloud services needed. That being said, you can optionally set up our devices on an existing cloud service.

Answer

You have a wide variety of options for scheduling, and control in general. The built-in task builder allows users to turn lights on/off based on the time of day, including sunrise and sunset as determined by the specified latitude and longitude. It also allows the user to repeat light control every certain number of seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, and years.

You can also specify override schedules which disables the scheduled control on certain days of the year.
