Lead Time: 10-12 Weeks
Application Area
The VEGAPULS Series wired sensors are non-contact, continuous level radar sensors. This sensor line excels at a wide variety of simple liquid and bulk solid level measuring tasks, such as water tank and fuel tank level monitoring, and drinking water filtration tank monitoring. You can rely on the VEGAPULS Series for any general liquid level monitoring application.
Your benefit
- Exact measurement results independent of medium properties and process conditions
- Maintenance-free operation due to non-contact 80 GHz radar technology
- High accuracy level measurement for a wide variety of applications
Water Tank Level Monitoring
Process Water Supply
Process water is collected in tanks or open basins and pumped for cleaning and rinsing purposes to various locations in the wastewater treatment plant. To ensure an optimal supply of water, the level in the process water tank is measured continuously.
Level measurement in the pure water tank
Non-contact level measurement with radar in the water storage basin.
Drinking Water
Application
Raw water passes through a sand and gravel filled filtration tank before being chemically treated. The level is carefully controlled to prevent overflows and to ensure proper water flow throughout the process. This level reading is passed to the control system to operate the pumps and valves that drive the system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Answer
Radar level sensors emit microwaves signals that are reflected back to the sensor by the target surface. The sensor measures the time of flight and calculates a distance from the sensor face. This is then converted to a level measurement based on how the sensor is scaled.
Answer
The VEGAPULS line of radar sensors are rated from ±5 mm to ±2 mm accuracy. Generally speaking, radar sensors are one of the more precise options for non-contact level measurement.
Answer
The primary difference between radar level trasmitters and ultrsonic is the type of signal they emit. Radar sensors use a microwave signal while ultrasonics use sound. Both are effective in different scenarios. Radar transmitters are generally more capable in a wider range of applications. However, ultrasonic sensors tend to be easier to work with as long as they're well suited for the application.
Answer
Radar level transmitters work well with both liquids and solids level measurement. They tend to excel in more difficult applications as they can be finely tuned to the correct surface while ignoring obstacles. However, radar sensors are still a bit more expensive than simpler technologies like ultrasonic. If your application is simple, such as cold, clean water level monitoring, consider an ultrasonic level sensor for a more cost effective solution. Contact us to discuss your specific needs. We'd be happy to help you select the right technology.
